Stripping Promoters
Since the 1980s, solvent suppliers have added the anion associated with a mineral acid such as phosphoric or sulfuric (i.e., phosphate or sulfate ion) to tertiary amines to promote solvent regeneration in certain applications. When applied correctly, the technology can quite effectively reduce solvent lean loadings. This can permit treating to much lower H2S levels (e.g., in tail gas treating) to be done routinely. These acid anions are all heat stable salts (HSSs) and all HSSs will act as stripping promoters. The key to knowing whether the method is being applied correctly is understanding how it works. Learn more here about how they work, when to consider applying the technology and the right questions to ask. Your solvent supplier is your best resource in this area.
